September 2025

Highlights From The Principal
I'm excited to share that Early College Academy has been recognized by U.S. News and World Reports as one of the Best High Schools in the nation! This also speaks to our high scores last Spring on the SAT, PSAT, and CMAS Science tests, which exceeded the overall score averages across the district and State of Colorado. ECA is ranked 13th in State Assessment Performance among all high schools in Colorado, and 653rd in the entire United States. Our students and staff have worked incredibly hard to accomplish this. We are so proud of them and their dedication - effort really does create achievement!
September brings with it many exciting events on the horizon. We will host our annual Fall Festival (September 19), Parent Teacher Conferences and Family & Community Resources Night (September 25), and many of our students will participate in multiple upcoming events at the University of Northern Colorado. We'll wrap up September and start off October with a Spirit Week (September 29 through October 3). Picture Day will be Wednesday, September 10. I invite you to take some time and explore some of the many things happening this month, with details below.

Colorado Free Application Day$
October 7-9, 2025
Colorado's eighth annual Free Applications Day$ will be held on October 7 - 9, 2025, for Colorado residents! If students submit their application any time those days, they are applying for FREE! Colorado Free Application Day$ was created to encourage Colorado’s best and brightest students to further their education in the state of Colorado. By removing barriers for students to achieve a credential, Colorado can increase the number of students who complete their programs and enter the workforce with a degree or competitive skills.
The Student Support Center at ECA will be open all three days for students to come in and work on their applications! Students should begin the application process before Free Application Day$, so that come October 7-9, students can simply submit their application. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Meza at Armando.Meza@aims.edu or refer to the Colorado Department of Higher Education.

Get Ahead on FAFSA: Create your FSA ID Now
Parents and students, it's never too early to start preparing for financial aid. One of the first steps is creating an FSA ID—a username and password that will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically. Both the student and the parent will need an FSA ID. Having your FSA IDs ready will save time when the FAFSA opens on October 1. Get ahead of the game by setting yours up today!
Financial Aid
Senior year is an exciting time as you plan your next steps beyond graduation. As you consider college options and costs, it’s critical to plan ahead. The first step is completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA determines your eligibility for various types of aid, including federal, state, and school-based aid, as well as grants and scholarships. All colleges and universities use the FAFSA to create your financial aid package.
The 2026-27 FAFSA application is set to open October 1
Visit the FAFSA website for more information.

Scholarships
College is expensive, but scholarships can help cover costs—and they don’t need to be repaid. Scholarships are awarded by various sources, including schools, businesses, non-profits, religious organizations, and the government. Each scholarship has its own deadline, criteria, and application process. Seniors can stay informed by checking our Senior Scholarship List.

Panorama Survey

District 6 thanks you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. We value input from our community – and we wish to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program, and overall experience for everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, District 6 will be having students in grades 3-12 participate in 3 Surveys throughout the year. These surveys are provided and administered by Panorama Surveys. Each survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to administer and will be completed during the school day.
We will conduct a pre and post Student Competency and Wellbeing Survey. The pre survey will be administered in the Fall, September 15th - 26th. The post survey will be administered in the Spring, March 2rd - 13th. The questions for these surveys will be the same in the Fall and the Spring and center around the topics of Social Awareness, Self-Management, Self-Efficacy, and Emotion Regulation.
In the Winter, we will conduct a survey that includes topics around Classroom Community, Rigorous Expectations, Student-Centered Environment, and School Safety. Students in 6th through 12th grades will complete additional survey topics around Diversity and Inclusion as well as Cultural Awareness and Action. The window for this survey is November 10th through December 12th.
Please notify us if you would like to opt your child out of taking any or all surveys by completing this online Google form or at https://forms.gle/BFoqMQWmbthgDXuh9 complete the information at the bottom of this form and returning it to your school. Please communicate by September 9, 2025 if you do not want your child to participate in the surveys.
If you would like to have your child(ren) participate in these surveys, no action is required.
Hearing and Vision
Early College Academy will be conducting hearing and vision screenings for students on October 9th, 2025, at Early College Academy during school hours. These screenings are for students in 9th grade enrolled at Early College Academy. These quick screenings help us find out if your child may need more testing. This is not a full exam, but it can help catch problems early. If your child wears prescription glasses or a hearing aid, please make sure they wear them to school each day, including on screening day.
If you do not want your child to participate in a hearing and vision screening this school year, please contact the health office by calling them at 970-348-5826 for a screening opt out form to be completed and returned to the health office no later than October 1st, 2025.
